Table of contents: Introduction Analysis Type of knowledge Tacit knowledge Explicit knowledge Knowledge Management benefits for organizations Leadership and managerial skills required for knowledge manager Case study Conclusion References Introduction: Knowledge is a very important property that everyone has, in general; and especially for organizations to manage it in order to develop themselves. Knowledge management is the key factor to be developed, productive, and to be successful in the business market. Every organization has its own knowledge assets to be managed and mastered. In the rapid changing environment and competitive market nowadays, organizations need to understand clearly the importance of knowledge management so that they can survive and succeed. This report will show the readers the clear understanding about what knowledge is and how important knowledge management affects companies. Analysis: First of all, lets discus about knowledge. In this booming information technology world these days, there are many definition about what knowledge is. According to Nonaka and Takeuchi, knowledge is justified true belief, and it is different from data and information. There are many more definitions from many others, but they still have the same basic concept which is the experiences, awareness that people had received from their past experiences. Knowledge is conducted by data, which is raw material such as numbers, words, unprocessed materialÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ etc. and information, which is created by filtered data. For examples, students enrollment to Raffles International College: when the students fill the form of enrollment, they have to put their names, phone numbers, address, email addressÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ all of these are data. And after that, Raffles gets the number of enrolling students for the new term; these are information that conducted fr om the previous data. Thus, we can come to the figure  [1]  of transferring from data to knowledge like following: Meaning to say, knowledge can be created by combining all these processes, or it can also be conceived through real experiences, communication, practices. Type of knowledge: Although knowledge is a huge resource, but there are still existing two types of knowledge: tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge. Tacit knowledge: Tacit knowledge is intangible. In the field of knowledge management, the concept of tacit knowledge is referred to a knowledge that is known by an individual and it is difficult to communicate to others  [2]  . For examples, to ride a motorbike or to drive a car, a person needs to practice with a motorbike or a car in order to be able to drive it; this cannot be learned from a book or from another person without practicing. If an individual only reads a book, he/she just knows how to drive in theory, and this knowledge is considered tacit knowledge. This is true when an individuals thought is difficult to be explained to other people or to be drawn, written down into documents. Tacit knowledge can be conceived through an individuals practices, learning, or working experiences  [3]  . We can have a simple example as you read a document or a book, are you even aware of the character? The answer is not, you probably skimmed over the words without any notice how they grouped ; because you already know what that meant. That is tacit knowledge. Explicit knowledge In contrast with tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge is tangible; normally it is contented in documents, files, books, images, movies, magazinesÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ etc. it is easy to share and communicate with the others. In an organization, explicit knowledge exists in the forms of documents such as contracts, customers information, policies of the companyÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ etc. and it can be built, used, and shared by the employees in the whole organization. In an organization, in the same case with the same tacit knowledge, each employee will have different way to solve the problem; as everyone has their own knowledge, experiences and different perspective so that they can have their own advantage and also for the whole organization. Thus, it is very important for them to manage the knowledge in order to maximize productivity and profitability. Knowledge management benefits for organizations: There are many questions pop up in the managers, CEO, CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer) when their company does not working properly, underperforming or the role of Knowledge Management is not considered as important such as Why do many corporations fail when they face continuous changes? How to improve the performance of the company? Or even How to motivate the employees? The important factor here is how to manage the different knowledge of the whole organization from both tacit and explicit knowledge, and then they can take full advantage of the knowledge in order to maximize the organizations productivity. That is why managing knowledge plays a very important role in the company. There are many definition of knowledge management, according to Debowski  [4]  , knowledge management is the process of identifying, capturing, organizing and disseming the intellectual assets that are critical to the organizations long-term performance. When Knowledge is well managed in an organi zation, the result will have much positive effect to the organizations profitability, improving productivity, decreasing the unexpected problems and also the employees. It will create more chances for the employees to improve and also motivate them to have more effort into work. In addition of the COP (community of practice) for the organization, employees can share their knowledge, working experience, skills about the jobs and also to create a better working environment. Leadership and managerial skills required for knowledge manager (CKO): As knowledge plays a very important role in the organizations, and managing knowledge is also an important job for the managers. To convert the employees tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge or into the organizations knowledge so that everyone can share it that requires the deliberate of the whole organizations system. However, to operate that system is not easy; thus, we can see the role of the Knowledge Manager (chief knowledge officer) is extremely important. A Chief Knowledge Officer is an organizational leader, he responsible for ensuring that the organization maximizes the value it achieves through knowledge. A CKO is also responsible for managing intellectual capital and the custodian of knowledge management practices in an organization  [5]  . His/her role is much broader than Chief Information Officer, besides creating, sharing, and developing knowledge in the organization; the CKO must use their knowledge first, then motivate the employees to contribute their kn owledge for the benefit of the whole organization. Moreover, in order to take that big responsibility, knowledge managers must have their skills through a wide variety of areas. They definitely have to be good at understanding the whole picture of the organizational situation, and also personal skills such as communication, interpersonal, negotiation skills, and listen to others to understand more about the employees then keep them motivated. Knowledge managers who can successfully combine these skills will help a lot in saving the time and cost for the organization and they will be excellent agents for the organization that they work for  [6]  . Case study: BrandBox is a small company located in Binh Thanh District, HCMC. BrandBox (used to be known as dLuxy) was found in 2008 and currently a member of worldwide partners Inc. (WPI), a worlds largest owner-operated agency network. Working and developing ideas with international standards, plus deep knowledge and understanding of the Vietnamese culture, BrandBoxs core business is to create and develop brand identity, advertising and graphics design. Services that the Company is delivering to customers are: Brand identity system, brainstorming advertising idea, and creative graphics design. Through 3 months of internship at the Company, I found that the structure of BrandBox is very simple: Due to its small size, therere only 3 departments are: Marketing, Design, and Human Resource that will report directly to the CEO. Marketing department is divided into many smaller groups. As many small size companies, BrandBox has their own knowledge to be managed. The CEO recruited mainly inter nship students; they are good students, young, smart, and creative from national or international universities. They were grouped together to work on the projects under Marketing department. There, the intern students will be responsible and take care of all the processes of the projects. Once a project received with the deadline given, all the groups have to brainstorm, looking for information, planning for the processes and then present to the CEO and other departments their ideas to get the project done with the most effective and efficient way. By doing this, BrandBox has saved a lot for the cost of hiring employees as most of internship students will be working without any payment. Furthermore, the results and information they received from the students are really good quality and relevant. For the students, although they wont receive any payment for all the work they have done, but they have learned a lot of things that they could never receive in school. As I mentioned above, the most effective way to share the knowledge is the Community Of Practice, by working together in groups, student can share the information, experiences, and knowledge with each other, also improve themselves in the same time. In my own opinion, as my assigned project worked out really well, I have learned a lot from the internship period and this is a great idea for the companies to recruit internship students, it not only benefits the companies but also the students as well. Experience, training, education. KM system, team brainstorming. In people, tangible forms. Use Pool Hold BuildIn the field of knowledge management, BrandBox can apply the Wiig Knowledge Cycle  [7]  as following: Work context, work process. fsfdsdffsfs In my opinion, the first step of the Wiig knowledge Cycle, Build Knowledge was applied successfully as the Company has some training courses for the new intern students to get used to the company policies, and to be familiar wi th the jobs. The companys size is small, then the employees can get to know others easier, then they can share their knowledge together. The other steps of the model was also well implemented, knowledge of the students and the employees is used properly, and in an effective way. Plus the teams and groups working environment is really an advantage for all the employees to brainstorm, share their knowledge, ideas, and experience with each other. Conclusion: In conclusion, throughout this report, Knowledge Management takes a really important place in an organization. If knowledge is well managed, it will bring benefit to both organizations and their employees, saving time, reduce cost, improve productivity, profitability and the human relationship as well. In addition, Knowledge Management is the key factor that affect directly to the organizations; any company that has good knowledge management system, it will survive and develop in this global competitive business world.

The Movie The Hawk Of The Shidenkai - 1335 Words

War world two would lead to the defeat of the Japanese army, and ever since the Japanese have challenged this notice of defeat through popular films and manga. My four films that will show the ways in which the memory of the war has been depicted are: â€Å"For Those We Love†, â€Å"The Eternal Zero†, â€Å"Grave of the Fireflies†, and last will be a manga called â€Å"The Hawk in the Shidenkai†. After the end of WWII, recollections have been altered: creating positive and heroic depictions of the war from a Japanese perspective. These narratives include themes that glorify both the soldiers in the war and the war itself, while also portraying the Japanese side as the victims. These narratives that have been created by both film and manga during the past 50 years has led to a false sense of collective memory, especially to that of the younger generation who had not experienced the war firsthand. If the younger audience continues to be exposed to this sense of false collective memories, then we will fail to learn from history and thus allows the possibility for history to repeat itself once more. Japanese popular culture has been engaged with memories of WWII since the early 1950s and this trend continues on even today. A clear example of the glorification of the war can be seen in the film â€Å"For Those We Love†. This film tells the tale of several young kamikaze pilots. Stories like these were able to create a false collective memory by framing a story that would encompass: the suffering, danger,

Electronic Dance Music Essay Example For Students

Electronic Dance Music Essay Dance Music has now reached its high in the public all over the world. This genre of music was created and reformed from past generations of music and its history goes all the way back to the mid-to-late asss. What is common throughout Electronic Dance Musics history is its usage of drugs between the attendees at these concerts, shows, festivals, or raves. Now that Electronic Music is becoming the most popular genre for young adults and teens to listen to, the public cant help but be aware of what chaos it could possibly bring. The only way to prevent such disasters of over-doses and deaths is to educate the Electronic Dance Music lovers on what could potentially happen to this culture if a change is not made. The Electronic Dance Music scene is almost like a reconfiguration of the disco era way back in the mid-to-late asss. There are way too many sub-genres of EDM music but the word that is mainly used to describe it is Techno. Techno is being described as anything with a thudding beat (Hellenizing). Some of the sub-genres inside EDM include house, acid-house, garage, techno, trap, trance, deputes, hard-style, and any more (Brian J). Back in the day, Disco music was considered an offshoot of funk and soul music and was also categorized as mainstream and new anti-commercial genres emerged which included reggae in Jamaica, punk in the I-J, and hip-hop in New York City (Hellenizing). What these genres didnt have was a record that could keep the audience dancing all night long; this is the factor that continues to live on in Electronic Dance Music. By the mid asss individual record labels had appeared and various strains of North American house, garage, techno were exported to Europe, which was the trigger, and this music scene began to rise (Hellenizing). Although this scene was reaching many countries around the world the U. K had the lead in adopting these new sounds. Drugs being affiliated with this music began in 1987 when a group of British Dos discovered MADAM when they went to the Spanish island of Pizza (Hellenizing). They found this drug to be the perfect accompaniment to this music and dancing in the clubs at night. They returned back home and began trying to recapture the feeling by starting their own clubs and raves in underground scenes Hellenizing). Parties continued for about a year before parents and police began panicking over these situations when they realized that drugs were at use. In order to escape the police interference these shows went further and further underground. By around the year of 1989 these events re-surfaced to the outside in more public places. After about 5 years of the rise of this new scene, the United Kingdom passed a series of prohibited laws to crack down on these events (Hellenizing). These laws did nothing but backfire. It caused more of these events to go further and further underground and was being held by what they called Do it yourself raves. These raves organized musical protests around environmental and social Justice issues. In the late sasss the public allowed Dos to come play in a tightly controlled and By electricians Music continued to rise in popularity and is now one of the most popular types of music produced in American and Europe since the birth of rock n roll (Mark J. B). Unlike any other genre of music, Edams main focus are the beats and drums (Mark 1. 8) Yes, many of the songs that are considered EDM have vocalists but they are armorial put in the background of the music while the focus is put on the sounds and the reoccurring beats. This difference, in my opinion is what draws people to the music where they can get lost and forget about everything else going on in their lives at the time. There is something about this scene that differs from any other which is why it is becoming so popular. Frederic Chopin EssayIt is pretty clear that the drug usage at these events will never be eliminated, so instead of focusing so much on that aspect, the public should focus primarily on educating the fans with information about keeping themselves safe. Another well-known DC today gives device to the public by saying, No need to overdue it or get sloppy, maybe try taking half as much, and letting lifes natural magic work its charms or maybe try taking a night off and see if you can have Just as much fun without getting high. Also I think its fun to spent time looking out for other people, everyone would be way better off (Staples). It is very visible that people all over the world are talking about and evaluating this scene of Electronic Music and its affiliation with drugs. It seems as if people of the public are Just waiting for the next death or over-dose to occur so that hey can crack down more and more and soon begin taking these concerts, shows, festivals, or raves away from the public to access. Nobody wants to see this scene that has changed so many peoples lives be taken away. The future of this culture is in the hands of the fans because they are the only people who can truly make a difference and change the publics views on this scene. Electronic Dance Music has been around for a long time and has evolved more and more into its own genre. This type of music is easily the most popular and it continues to grow throughout the population in the current decade. Many people entwine to view it as a drug-related music but to the fans it is much more than that. To the fans its an escape from reality, a chance to connect with other people that they never would, and a chance for them to explore and find themselves. The major issue with this music is its tie with drugs. Within the past few years there have been many drug related deaths at these events and if something isnt changed then the shows could be once again taken control over and shut down by the public. This is not because the public dislikes this music or what it creates for people, it is purely because of the health risks that come along with it.

Act Local free essay sample

Disneys fabled studio entertainment unit has an illustrious history in both animation and live-action features. The Lion King, released in 1994, is the highest grossing animated film of all time. More recently, Disney has enjoyed massive hits with live-action features. These include Pirates of the Caribbean and its sequels as well as classic American fare such as the TV show High School Musical. However, despite high worldwide awareness levels of the Disney brand, as of 2006 only 25 percent of the companys revenues came from outside the United States. Historically, the Disney team has created products at its headquarters in Burbank, California, and then exported them to the rest of the world. Now, as the company targets China, India, South Korea, and other emerging markets, it is departing from its one size fits all approach. One factor driving the strategy change: the first-year visitor count in Hong Kong fell short of the target figure of 5. We will write a custom essay sample on Act Local or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page 6 million people. This prompted company executives to step up efforts to educate the Chinese about Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other Disney characters. As Bill Ernest, managing director, told the Financial Times, If you havent grown up with the brand, the stories, or the theme, you are not quite sure what you are walking into. In Hong Kong, Disney officials were slow to recognize that Chinese vacationers who live on the mainland often book package tours. Tour operators choose restaurants, shopping opportunities, and other destinations that generate the highest fees and commissions. At first, Hong Kong Disneyland didnt offer a tour package that included dinners. A new dining with Disney program was quickly rolled out. To round out the promotion, individual tour operators were offered a 50 percent individual discount as an incentive to visit Disneyland personally so they would have first-hand experience at the park. Disney has learned that they cant impose the American will— or Disneys version of it—on another continent. Theyve bent over backward to make Hong Kong Disneyland blend in with the surroundings. 47 Dennis McAlpine, media and entertainment research specialist We have been U. S. -centric forever. We realize that if were going to be a global network, then we need to solicit material from around the world. 48 Gary Marsh, Disney Channel Worldwide, commenting on Disneys new programming divisions in the UK and Japan Disney also went to great lengths to capitalize on an astrological coincidence: According to the traditional Chinese calendar, 2008 was the year of the rat. In Hong Kong, Mickey and Minnie Mouse wore special red costumes as Disney proclaimed 2008 to be the Year of the Mouse. Because the Chinese government tightly controls television and motion picture standards, Disney emphasized affordable consumer products such as plush toys and Disney-themed clothing to generate awareness and interest in the Disney brand. In 2009, amidst the global economic downturn and ongoing challenges at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disneys Parks and Resorts division announced plans for a new $3. 6 billion park in Shanghai. The proposed park will be owned jointly by Disney and the Shanghai municipalgovernment. Consisting of a theme park, hotel, and shops, the development would create 50,000 much-needed jobs. Shanghai Disneyland is an important element in Disneys strategy for penetrating the local market. However, the proposal does not address Disneys need for increased media exposure; company officials believe that a Chinese Disney TV channel is essential to build awareness of the Disney brand and interest in the new theme park. Disneys other divisions are also pursuing a more localized approach in key emerging markets. As Jason Reed, general manager for Walt Disney Studios International Productions, noted, Weve been very successful with our big global productions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure. But we think theres a natural way to supplement these films in areas like China, Russia, and India—areas that have built-in film traditions. For example, in India Disney is abandoning its go-it-alone policy and partnering with local companies such as Yash Raj Films. One new Hindi-language show, Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, concerns a girls quest for identity after living in the United States; another show, Vicky and Vetal, concerns a boys friendship with a 300-year-old ghost. The new approach is clearly paying off. In 2008, Disney released Roadside Romeo, its first animated feature developed specifically for India. The film was box-office gold, with the best opening weekend of any Disney feature in India. Disney is hoping to appeal to Indias family-oriented middle-class consumers; core themes include believe in yourself, express yourself, and celebrate your family. Because the number of cable television subscribers is increasingly rapidly, Disney launched the Disney Channel and Toon Disney. In addition, the company acquired Hugama, a childrens channel. Disney is also making Indian versions of its hit movie High School Musical. One challenge in India is the number of languages and dialects. Roadside Romeo was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Teluga. Future projects may be produced specifically for southern India where movie preferences are markedly different than in the north. Disney is going native in other emerging markets as well. 2009s Book of Masters was the companys first live-action film for the Russian market. A Russian version of High School Musical is also in the works. Next up: the Middle East. As Disneys Jason Reed says, Theres a really strong affinity between the strong family values in the region and the Disney brand. We want to go out and try to make a film that will play to families from North Africa to the Gulf States. Discussion Questions Why is it necessary for Disney to build braid awareness in China and other emerging markets? Do you agree with Disneys decision to pursue a localization approach in emerging-markets? Why is High School Musical~so successful in global markets?

Biology Lab Report Connective Tissue Essays

Biology Lab Report Connective Tissue Essays Biology Lab Report Connective Tissue Paper Biology Lab Report Connective Tissue Paper Muscle tissue: It is in charge of the contractive action or movement of the body. It can be attached to bone, internal organs and blood vessels. Due to this contraction it performs other actions such as posture, joint stability and heat production. There are 3 types of muscle tissue. * Skeletal muscle: It is composed of striated muscle fibers with many nuclei in the periphery and it is attached to bones. It is controlled by the central nervous system and so it is voluntary. The muscle fibers are striated and each acts independently of the rest of the muscle fibers. Smooth muscle: It is opposed to skeletal muscle in everything. The fibers are not striated, they are spindle shaped with a central nucleus and they act independently of our consciousness and they are located in the walls of hollow internal organs such as blood vessels, uterus and bladder. They facilitate or retard the transportation of fluid. * Cardiac muscle: It is located in the walls of the heart and its part of the autonomic nervous system too, meaning they contract involuntarily. The cardiac muscle cell has one central nucleus like smooth muscle, but its striated like skeletal. It is rectangular in shape. The contraction is involuntary, strong and rhythmical. 2. Adipose tissue: It is composed of adipose cells called adipose. It can be found within the connective tissue isolated or in small pads. It is a source of energy in the body but it can also serve as support for internal organs, shock absorbers, thermal insulator and if subcutaneous it helps shaping the surface of the body. There are 2 types of adipose tissue. * Molecular (yellow) adipose tissue: It is composed of cells that contain one large droplet of yellow fat inside the cytoplasm. Multilateral (brown) adipose tissue: It is composed of cells containing numerous lipid droplets and abundant brown mitochondria. 3. Nervous tissue: It is composed of only 2 main types of cells, Neurons and Glacial cells. * Neuron: It is a cell whose function is to transmit electrical impulses between the central nervous system and the organs or between them. They are mitotic meaning that they do not undergo mitosis so there is no way to replace them. They are composed of 3 parts, Soma or cell body, Dendrites and one Axon, being these last 2 cytoplasm extensions coming from the plasma cell body. Dendrites are in charge of sending the impulse to the cell body or Soma (Afferent process) and Axon is in charge of sending the impulse away (Efferent process). There are also Intervention (Association neurons). * Glacial cells: They are not conductive and their function is to provide a support system for the neurons. 4. Blood: It is formed by 55% of plasma and 45% of different specialized blood cells. 99% of these specialized cells are Erythrocytes or red blood cells carrying oxygen. The rest are white blood cells that are in charge of defense, and platelets that are fragmented cells involved in blood clotting. White blood cells can be divided into two groups depending if there is presence or absence of granules in their cytoplasm. Granulocytic include interruptions, sinkholes and basophilic and have abnormal nucleus shape, whereas Granulocytic include lymphocytes and basophilic and have a rounded nucleus shape. Ill. Experimental This lab was divided into 2. Both parts consisted on choosing different slides to observe under the microscope, however, the lab experiment was too long and only a few slides from the second part, apart from the first part of the experiment, were observed. The rest of the experiment is to be finished in the next lab session. SST part: Different slides were observed, identified and drawn. A. Human blood B. Nucleated frog blood C. Skeletal muscle D. Cardiac muscle E. Smooth muscle F. Adipose tissue G. Nerve tissue H. Actresses 2nd part: Same procedure but only few slides observed, identified and drawn. A. Artery and vein B. Integument system (Skin) C. Digestive syste m (Stomach) D. Digestive system (Liver) IV. Results Attached to the lab report. V. Discussion In this lab, the slides were considerably easier to observe and identify however n some cases such as neurons, several slides were to be observed in order to obtain a clear view. Also, the length of this lab and the big amount of slides to be observed, made it impossible to finish and some slides from the second part were left for the next lab session. Slides observed for the second part were drawn and included in the Results. VI. Conclusion In this lab experiment, all the slides were correctly identified and named. As in the previous Lab, the slides were already prepared and no work apart from observing through the microscope, identifying and drawing the results, was to be done.

GE and the Honeywell. Argument For And Against The Commission Decision Essay

GE and the Honeywell. Argument For And Against The Commission Decision - Essay Example According to Pfanz (2001), the categories of bundling might have included pure and mixed. Indeed, as the paper progresses it would be simpler to deduce the category. The Commission suggested that the bundling technique would have many pleasant effects on the merged GE and Honeywell’s competitors in the markets for aerospace equipment and jet engines. This is because the rivals’ market shares would be eroded by their incapability to compete with the joined entity package deals, which in turn would lower the profitability of their rivals leading to their exit (Schlossberg & American Bar Association. Section of Antitrust Law 2008, p. 17). The Commission thought that the ability of the company to employ bundling would enable the combined corporate to offer complimentary goods at a reduced price compared to when the products are sold separately. The Commission suggested that bundling would lower the revenues for the GE’s and Honey well’s Competitors in the market. The reduction of revenues would be advantageous to the companies since it would reduce their competitors’ ability to invest. Moreover, it would augment the companies’ capabilities of competing effectively. According to the Commission’s view, the prices could rise in future, and this would cause harm to their rivals and customers in the market. From the Commission’s presentation, bundling would have an ultimate effect of shutting out markets for the competitors who deals with single line of products. Such foreclose would help in the decrease of investments by other competitors or even eliminate them. The Commission pre dicted that the combined business would have incentives by bundling its companies’ products. This would make its competitors to be less competitive by depriving then revenues. This implies that the firms that have been deprived their revenues would not cover their fixed cost. He argued that this would be advantageous to the EG and Honeywell, since it would have unpleasant effects on their competitors spending and thus they would not compete effectively in future. In his argument, the Commission proved his points by providing proof that Honeywell uses bundling in strategic way called â€Å"multi-product† bids. Moreover, the Commission got evidence from the companies’ competitors proving that they faced Honeywell bundling, which made it difficult for them to compete. Therefore, the Commission said that if bundling were to continue, their rivals would withdraw particularly the Rockwell Collins Company

My Personal and Professional Development Plan Essay Example for Free

My Personal and Professional Development Plan Essay It is a journey of the self to contemplate all the happenings going on around. I can say that I have reached the middle of the road with regard to my journey in life. I am now entering a new phase of my life. My graduation is almost near. I have to face the new world in order for me to continue my journey on this earth. I remember when I first entered this university. I do not have friends before; I also remember the times when I am longing for my parents. I miss them so much but because of my determination to study here, I managed to cope up with my new environment. I remember how I felt whenever I’m alone. I also remember the hard times during my first day here. The way of life, the attitudes of the students and of course, the expectations from my instructors and professors gave me some intense feeling of being new to this university. But as days passed I learned how to mingle with them and cope with my new environment. Now, the time is near to end my journey in this stage of my life. My journey in college is coming to an end. I am so excited to face a new period in my life. As I move on to my journey, I want to spend time with my family and catch up with my friends. I want to go out on a vacation where I can loosen up a bit. I am planning to go to a place where I can relax and think of nothing but myself. By the time I graduate, I will visit my family back in Brazil and I will visit all the places that Ive been. This will give me time to think about my future; on what path would I take. I will also visit my old friends to reconnect with them, and try to enjoy my vacation there. By the time I go back to work, I will see to it that I will be promoted after five months. I will instill in mind that I need to be promoted, this is my way in motivating myself to achieve what I have planned. I will also enroll in a university to get a Master’s degree. I plan to get a management degree because I want to have a managerial position in my workplace. We know for a fact that having a greater education gives you a chance to compete in the market that is, having a higher position in a company. I believe that the adult tasks, unique to each period and era of the adult life are intertwined with the issues and problems inherited from our childhood, and are mediated by dynamic pressure from socioeconomic and historical aspects of life from within the cultures and societies where we live. Helping put our adult lives back in balance with our inner resources, and understanding the contradictions and conflicts built into our life patterns between who we are and who we want to be, between what we love and what we must do, between our often clashing commitments this is often the task that underlies the resolution of psychological symptoms and suffering. With these challenges in life, an individual learn to know himself/herself better and try to do something about it. Each and every one of us has experienced this kind of situation and we try to solve it as soon as the problem arises. Going back to my previous papers I mentioned that I have been into sorrow but I think of positive thoughts to divert my attention and see to it that these challenges in my life will help me grow. I am grateful for the incidents in my life that I have experienced. It made me who I am a stronger woman. Forgetting and learning from your experiences, makes you more knowledgeable about realities of life. As human being, we have differences and similarities. Thus, according to Levinson, â€Å"human life cycle is universal, yet each life is different†; that both sexes have developmental histories to some extent unique to their own gender, but the overall pattern in the adult development. This follows the same structure of eras and alternating periods. Adult Development Theory helps us see more of our connectedness to the rest of life, primarily through our experience of living within the limits of a relatively invariant, species-specific life cycle, containing nevertheless within it, the creative potential of individual variability (Kitrrell, 1998). My plan in achieving my goals: personal and professional I mentioned earlier that I first planned to graduate for me to get a decent job. In order for me to get a high grades I would have to keep in mind that nothing is more important than finishing all the requirements needed for me to graduate. One of my mottos this school year was to graduate and find a job that will help me enhance my knowledge about my course. And time is near for me to accomplish my goal with regard to my education. One of my personal goals is to develop my profession and apply the knowledge that I have learned during my stay here at the University. I want to help others in building their own dreams. I want to have smooth relationships with my co-workers. I want them to know me better. In helping them with their tasks, they will also help me with mine. thus, my growth with regard to personal and professional life go hand in hand, that is, i can develop my relationship with others by making them my friends and at the same time, they help me enhance my professional growthmaking good at my job. Doing your job is not good enough to say that you are growing professionally. An individual needs a harmonious relationship with people surrounding him/her to understand and do his/her work better. In it, the individual will not have any conflicts with his/her co-workers. S/he will be happy and enjoys his/her tasks in the office. Adjustment is the key in making a harmonious relationship with others. It is very important in work and also with personal life, rather than likability, meaning it is more important to interact within your co-workers than to impress them. If a person wants to impress others, s/he must communicate will with others s/he must mingle with them. In this way, s/he will be understood by them and they may help him/her in his/her endeavor in work. Being friends with your co-workers makes your work load more fun and you will not feel the pressure in doing your assigned tasks. So, I must adjust to the people in my workplace and in the society that I belong. I will see to it that I will not have any conflict with them. I will befriend them to help me cope with the new environment that I enter. I will share my thoughts to them for them to understand me better and try to use it as an instrument in accepting me as part of their company. I also want promotion, so I am planning to have a higher education, I will enroll for masteral and at the same time do good in my work. I will attend conferences if necessary to help me gain more credentials for the promotion that I want. I just want to achieve this in my first two years of work. After attending masterals, I plan to have my PhD to have a higher position in my recent workplace or maybe I can have a career move where I can improve my ability and skills with regard to what I have studied. But before I achieve these goals, I will develop a clear and highly specific career goals and objectives for myself. I believe in the goodness and attainability of my goals I being accountable for the consequences that may occur. I will strive towards reaching my goals and dreams one day at a time. I see my career as a vehicle that will help me take my goals. I will commit myself emotionally and psychologically to turn my dreams into reality. But first, I need to focus on what I want to do, that is, to have a vacation for myself. I will plan my goals base on its attainabilityshort- and long-term goals. Second, I need to eliminate excuses for not moving forward toward my goals. I will put my career plan that maps out specific moves I can make toward my goals on a daily basis. From what I have found on my assessments, I now develop an awareness of what I want to do. Two years from now, I want to finish my Master’s degree. Five years from now, I want to have a child and have a beautiful family of my own. And ten years from now I want to have a top position in a company and make a name in the business industry. My ideal job would enable me to grow personally and professionally. This job will help me enhance my ability and skills in communicating with others. As I graduate from this university, I will step-up for more formal education in order for me to attain my goal. We all know that having a higher education will give you a chance to compete on the job market. This way, I can improve my personality. Having a good job is not enough. I want to get more than what I have. At my recent job, I will try my best to do my job for me to be promoted. Being a CSR, I won’t try arguing with unhappy customers. If I can’t handle them, I better call my manager. I also want to receive feedback about my performance at work once a week. I will use these feedbacks to improve my work, and to be more efficient employee. I will use my resources to my advantage. Performance is a very important factor for every individual. It is created to assess individual action with regard to how s/he conducted his/her own acts. Interacting with others help someone assess his/her action on how and what should s/he do to act accordingly, that is, behaving in a manner where s/he is supposed to act. Each and every one of us is expected to act in every situation we encounter. An individual could maintain an ideal role within the situation. As a student, I must study hard and do all my assignments to conform to the rules and regulations of the school. I must act as a student in order for me to perform my role as a student. By doing this, I learned how to assess my work according to the standards of the University. The road to success Happiness is connected to personal effectiveness wherein you feel contentment within yourself. For me, personal effectiveness is doing what you want, getting yourself from where you are to where you want to be, that is, achieving what you want in life. Thus, it takes a lot of effort to say that an individual is successful in doing the things that s/he wants. Defining personal effectiveness is the same as how we define success. We individuals seek success being intertwined with happiness. We can say that success is having the things that you wantearning money for yourself and your family, getting the highest paying job in town, having all the things that the world offers, and the likes. We define success with regard to tangible and intangible factors the materials that we use in determining success and the feeling that we feel inside in getting that success. As I mentioned in my previous paper, I defined happiness as a pleasurable satisfaction, a state of well-being and contentmentbeing happy of what you have. Regret is a way of depressing yourself of not getting what you want or doing what you should have done. Seeing my mistakes and my weaknesses enables me to improve my worth as an individual. This made me more effective citizen, student, daughter, friend and a partner. And I try to live one day at a time in order for me to achieve my goals in life. In this way, I can avoid myself of feeling too overwhelmed with my limits and emotions. I will be entering a new page in my life, as I go on with this great transition, I realized that my experiences and the people around me have a great impact of who I am today and what will I be tomorrow. My future depends on how I plan to go on with my lifemy future! I can say that I am contented of what I have right now but I am not satisfied of where I am today. I want to explore more of my world. I want to excel from my job and I plan to have a very good life, that is, being successful and all the people around me are happy with what they have, especially my family. Prior to graduation, I plan to have good, if not better grades. I want to make it better for me to land a job that will help me earn enough money that is salary that will enhance my way of living. I don’t want to have a failing mark. This will reflect my personality as individual. Failing mark means I didn’t do my best to pass my course. In order for me to achieve this, I will read all my reading assignments and complete all the requirements that are needed to be submitted. I will see to it that I will pass my entire exam. I will love and enjoy my course and look at every single test as a challenge in making me more responsible individual. Taking responsibility in all your actions make an individual is more assertive of what s/he wants to achieve. My family is very important to my life, I want them to be happy with their own life and be successful with their chosen field. I want my mother to be more understanding and I will see to it that she is happy right now. I want her to feel that we, her children love her very much. I want my family to be complete and witness my graduation. I want to share my achievement with them. They are my strength and joy. Without them, I cannot overcome all the obstacles that came my way. They are the one whom I run to whenever I have a problem. They gave me good advices on how to handle my problems. Even though they are not with me, they are always here in my heart. Daniel Levinson’s theory of adult development Adult development theory presents a vivid understanding of life cycle. Daniel Levinson worked out his theories of adult development in two landmark studies, Seasons of a Man’s Life and Seasons of a Woman’s Life. He argues essentially that the adult portion of the human life span is divided into three eras: early, middle, and late adulthood. Each of these broad eras are themselves divided between entry or initial stages and ending or more-or-less stable stages. Think of the difference and quality of the life structure and goals of a 24 year old as compared with a 34 year old, and you will get a sense of the internal changes that occur within otherwise specific eras, i. e. , both a 24 year old and a 34 year old would be considered young adults within the Levinsonian perspective. The divisions between the life eras are marked by significant transitional periods that can last for some years. Life during these shifts can be seen as rocky or smooth, noisy or quiet, but the quality and significance of one’s life commitments often change between the beginning and end of such periods. I chose this theory to plan my future because it enables me to think of the differences and similarities of characteristics between the two sexes and also to compare the experience of the adulthood with the late-adulthood stage and the other stages of life as discussed by Levinson. This theory reflects essential changes that adults undergo. Thus, it provides a clearer view of what reality is. This theory can be applied in planning on with your life. It will make you aware of the things that you don’t bother to know. This will help you analyze your work and performances as part of the society. This will enhance your knowledge about your role in the society. This will enable you to view things in a broader way, i. e. , having a positive outlook in life in entering the new phase of your life. This theory also presents a good foundation for understanding goal setting of individuals entering into particular adult stages (Minter Samuel, 1998). If you know your goals, probably you will know where you are heading to. This perspective on adult development is important for us, adults to understand. This will enable us to resolve important transitional issues during the vital periods in our lives. Thus, each transitional period is needed so that changes in individuation and relationships are attained by concerned individuals (Wheeler-Scruggs, 2008). This model is created to promote individuation and build relationships among individuals that they may use in getting what they want in life. These changes bring greater sense of autonomy and give a greater expression and achievement of one’s self-potential (Wheeler-Scruggs, 2008). Thus, individuals go through the various stages and transitions in order for them to become more self-reliant. Its nature is focused on building characteristics that would help the individual attain his/her personal and professional goals. It is also used to create rapport with each and every individual concerned. This would help the individuals reach their goals. Building rapport is very important in making your goals attainable. If you communicate well with other, they will help you achieve your goals by giving you information that you need. For instance, as a CSR I need to build rapport to the customers for them to give a positive feedback in which they will be nice to me thus, making my work easy. And with regard to my co-workers, I need to build rapport for them to help me in my job, giving some advices if I experience some difficulties in my job. Thus, this will help each and every one to improve their work and at the same time develop personal relationships. As I have mentioned earlier, we need each other in order for us to grow. With the help of others, we will achieve the set goals we planned for ourselves. As I assess my performance, I see my potentials to be growing. These potentials include my leadership ability and interpersonal skills which I can use in communicating at work. I will try to develop my weaknesses into strengths for me to improve myself, personally and professionally. This will also be of help to us in communicating with each other. Every student must know that they need their teachers for them to gain knowledge and improve their way of thinking. The teachers may help their students in developing their potentials and skills which they will use in communicating with others, most especially with regard to their work. Conclusion After planning all my walks in life, I would like to slowly acquire my goal. I will stick to my plan. As I have said earlier, I want to achieve my goal one step at a time. I believe that all my plans are reachable. I divided my plans into two: long-term goal and short-term goal. I would focus first on short-term goal: to be promoted in my work, to have a vacation with my family in Brazil, to visit my friends, to extend my family by having a new French bulldog in my house, and to graduate; and then work on to my long-term goals: having a good life with my own family and for my mom to be happy with what we, her children have achieved in life, and be one of the best Psychologist in town. This assignment enables me to reflect on how I manage my life after graduation. I have learned that in order to succeed in life, an individual must look at all the aspects of life before planning his/her future, that is, reflecting on the experiences s/he had and planning the future. Thus, development means assessing your own life and making all the necessary steps to achieve my goals. I learned that in order to achieve your dreams, you must decide to for Utopia, which means going beyond the reach of the society until we overcome the obstacles that stand in our way. These obstacles include negativism, fear, depression, and the problems they create discouragement, economic stagnation, crime, drug dependency, family distrust, etc. At this moment in my life, I can say that I have achieved something for myselfovercoming the obstacles that came my way. This helped me have a positive outlook in life. Thus, I will prioritize myself, of what I want to do and where I want to go. Through this process I will know that I will be a successful psychologist someday. References Kitrrell, D. (1998). Victorian Newspapers -- Victorian Time Period

Victorian Newspapers: The Source for Inquiring Minds In William Makepeace Thackeray's novel Vanity Fair, George Sedley Osborne exhibits a desire to have his name appear in the newspapers. Furthermore, he is not the only one in Vanity Fair who is concerned with the newspapers, considering the fact that the words "newspaper" and "newspapers" appear twenty-two times in Thackeray's novel. Still, there is much more to know about Victorian newspapers than Thackeray imparts to his readers. Although George is unsuccessful in getting his name in print, the following information will be successful in illustrating to its readers the when, where, and why of newspapers in the Victorian era. The Nineteenth century included a monumental step for the world of newspapers. In fact, the "first papers to resemble the daily newspaper of the mid-twentieth century were the penny papers of the 1830's" (Hartman 17). Though their origins began in the Victorian era, the newspapers read today barely resemble the sparse "penny papers" years ago (Hartman 17). Reader Appeal Victorian newspapers found their start as expensive publications that were essentially unattainable by the lower classes. The reason for this inaccessibility is accounted for by the additional tax placed on newspapers during this time. This tax "took the form of a stamp duty, paid and recorded on every copy" ("Images"). Nevertheless, the sales of newspapers continually climbed. In addition, the "early select papers appealed only to man, the political animal" (Sampson 855). Indeed, the majorities of topics found in an early Victorian newspaper were political, and also sought to be partisan, rather than non-partisan. Finally, towards the end of the century, papers appealing to the "whol... ...ttp://www.uk.olivesoftware.com>. "Concise History of the British Newspaper in the 19th Century." Human experience and moral Essay

To remember that it is human experience and moral values that will last forever and remained unchanged, and the growth of human conscience further awakens to a newer and better future experiences are not dropped to mere past rather they become a recollection and a refraction to a discovery of new you. The door: not just a big wooden barrier to the entrance of our house but also an explosion to my emotions. Goodbyes were being said as happy birthdays? It was confusion that began to consume my mind and heart as my parents walked out the door not knowing when I will see them again. Excitement, happiness and joyfulness flowing along my blood as I began to realize I am alone and everything my eyes spotted belonged to me. Heaven was the chosen word by my desensitized numbness mind. However, a feeling of guilt made this question interrupt my thoughts, `Do I have the right to enjoy this joyful moment of being alone, knowing that my father is going for a battle for his survival? ` As I was climbing the stair case to regain my nest, where all the gatherings and the devious planning of good times were held, I ignored my feeling of guilt and the purpose of my father’s journey and I started thinking, â€Å"Hey! Let the fun begin! † Little was my knowledge about chance and choice. To the very least, I only knew their denotations. What happened to my father was neither his choice nor of the family but certainly a chance and for what chance it was, I did not know and did not strive to know. I saw everything as a pure chance. With parents’ away and no exact time when to be home; it was a real chance to own my time – a chance to go party everyday, stay up late, go to school late, and skip classes, neglecting the fact that along chances are series of choices and the interplay of the two alongside my treatment determines the quality of my life. I allowed myself to be fully consumed with the false jollification of life. Partying with friends was a gauge for fulfillment. Shouts and yells became the expression of being fully alive. I was unmindful of my dad who was into a different tone of shouting and yelling for pain and survival. We were at the opposite poles on the single line of human feeling. Instead of reaching out, I moved away. Going to parties everyday meant staying up late at night. It resulted to going to school late and even skipping classes and the rest was a worse, if not worst, history of an irresponsible student and woman. The chain effects of my single unrecognized and unmeditated act delivered me to a world of guilt and shame and if nourished by pride, I will be lured forever into false happiness. I messed up my life! Where am I to start? Where do I begin? Never can a plant, young or not, die when its branches are cut. Roots have to be found and uprooted. The same is true with my case. What is the root of my insensitivity to my family’s case? Certainly, it wasn’t about going to party, cutting and skipping classes, etc. It was about how I viewed and dealt with what’s going on around. It was about having certain chances and making the right choices where decision making, anticipating, and understanding come in. True enough, it is only when I failed and committed mistakes that I came to realize: had I thought things over and anticipated before acting, I wouldn’t be this bad and guilty, and had I thought that I have the choice to do what is right and not act on emotional satisfaction and childishness, I wouldn’t be messing my life this way and made my parents disappointed. My life is a chance and how I live it is a choice – its quality is in my hands. How should I live it? â€Å"Wherever you go the sky will always be blue†. This line rang a bell to my ear. Certain things around are given for what they are and neither you nor I have the power to change them. And life is not about changing what we cannot but moving towards what is, for the whole humanity, true and therefore unchangeable. The truth is, what is true and unchangeable aims for ‘what is good’ and what is good surpasses any age, color, time, gender, religion, and whatever differences we have. The whole existence of life should be directed towards ‘doing good’, and its meaning is not our own selfish definition but the one true word – LOVE. It was sad to admit that I was not excuse for failing to recognize what good I should have done that very moment of my life, but it would be bitter if I continue to dwell in that past and live miserably. While I did that mistake of falling into that dark pit of human existence, I will always have the choice of going out and live life on the banner of goodness and all I need is the staff of caution and discrimination to continue living and making the right choices for every chances that come my way. To remember that it is human experience and moral values that will last forever and remained unchanged, and the growth of human conscience further awakens to a newer and better future, I will always, not just remember, do good for the rest of my life. Merge the whole of myself in my eyes, and go towards the vision, go towards the vision, go towards the vision.

Gender Of The Gift By The Marilyn Strathern - 1099 Words

The book Gender of the Gift by the Marilyn Strathern is a detailed evaluation of the problems faced by women and the society at large in Melanesia. The study mainly focuses on the native’s culture with the guinea mead’s field report as the center of interest. The report encompasses mead’s adolescence and sexual traits. The book also reviews several other anthropological reports all around the area. The way in which the author reveals the state of the art is quite confusing although the method of revelation is satisfying. The section of the book helps to explain into details the dynamics of the anthropological field since Margret Mead left. The book has been written when the anthropology field is undergoing critical technological advancement. It is aimed at reaching generations that are experiencing problems with self-identification, power and over-ambitious objectives. This post-modern anthropology insists that the outside is of importance just like the inside (Strathern 1988:65). The foreign culture in the report has been disregarded due to lack of proper authenticity and instead the ethnography front page space has been taken over by the backstage field workers and self-questioning commentary. The author of the book has two conflicting set of ideas that she wishes to relay in her writing. She at first communicates messages on consciousness but at the same time writes a post-modernized book about anthropology. The issues she attempts to address are against theShow MoreRelatedEssay on The Role Of Women in the Renaissance1645 Words   |  7 Pagesunder medieval feudalism, burst forth with new fervor and resulted in a new culture (Osmond 18).
